What wpsquirrel is

The central platform for BIM management and collaboration.

BIM design depends on close collaboration around a shared 3D model. wpsquirrel gives your team access to project data, with tools for managing information, communicating and automating workflows.

Learn what a CDE does and what to look for when choosing one in our common data environment guide (in German). If your project does not need dedicated BIM administration, the bimplan BIM viewer may be enough.

Who is wpsquirrel for?

  • BIM coordinators and project managers with model-based projects
  • Design teams that exchange and check discipline models
  • Clients (in German) who want to retain approved model revisions
  • Project teams that manage models, plans and documents together

Features

What you can do with wpsquirrel.

Central data environment

Manage IFC models, plans and documents in one place. Consistent filing, versioning and statuses keep information clear throughout the design process.

Workflows for exchange and checking

Automated and custom workflows support the exchange of current project data and discipline models. Multi-stage checks help the right information reach the right people.

IFC viewer and coordination view

Combine sub-models and revisions in a coordination view, explore their structure and parameters, use filters and sections, and save camera views.

Version comparison

Compare versions of a discipline model to see changes to objects and parameters highlighted in colour.

Clash detection

Clash detection helps reveal design errors and overlapping building services early.

Component issues and BCF export

Add comments to a component, with a priority, owner and deadline. Issues are documented, shared through workflows and can be exported in BIM Collaboration Format (BCF).

Versions and permissions

Retain approved model revisions and control access.

Retain approved revisions at the end of each design phase. Give participants access to the areas relevant to them, and keep a record of each issue’s history and status.

  • Clear versioning of discipline models
  • Role-based access to project areas
  • History for every issue

Every model revision remains traceable.

Access based on role and discipline.

What is a BIM CDE?

A BIM CDE is a shared environment for a BIM project’s information. It brings models, plans and documents together with defined roles, statuses and version controls. wpsquirrel provides this environment using Open BIM.

Which formats does wpsquirrel support?

wpsquirrel works with IFC models using Open BIM. You can export issues in BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) for use in your local system.

How do specialist designers with different models work together?

The IFC viewer combines sub-models and revisions into a coordination view for design meetings. Approved revisions can be retained at the end of a design phase.

How do I find design errors and changes?

Version comparison highlights changes to objects and parameters in colour. Clash detection reveals overlapping services and other conflicts, which you can record as issues on the relevant component.

Is bimplan enough, or do I need wpsquirrel?

If you mainly want to view and analyse models, the compact bimplan BIM viewer is sufficient. If you need workflows, version comparison, clash detection and issue management, wpsquirrel is the right choice.
